Washington: Xylem has announced an agreement to acquire Cornell Pump Company and Roper Pump Company, two U.S.-based pumping businesses serving a range of industrial and municipal applications. The proposed acquisition will expand Xylem’s portfolio of engineered pumping technologies and application expertise.

Cornell Pump manufactures centrifugal pumping systems used across municipal water and wastewater, agriculture, mining and industrial applications. The company, founded in 1946, produces pumping equipment for applications ranging from water transfer and irrigation to solids handling and wastewater services.

Roper Pump brings complementary capabilities in industrial fluid handling. Its portfolio includes external gear pumps, progressive-cavity pumps and other engineered pumping solutions used in sectors such as energy, chemical processing, transportation and general industrial operations.

Xylem said the addition of the two businesses is intended to strengthen its participation in mission-critical pumping applications and broaden its ability to address increasingly complex water and infrastructure requirements. The combination could also extend Xylem’s reach into applications involving construction, mining, food and beverage, agriculture, energy and municipal infrastructure.

For the water sector, the proposed acquisition would add specialised pumping technologies to Xylem’s existing portfolio of water transport, wastewater, treatment and digital solutions. Engineered pumps remain essential across drinking-water systems, wastewater facilities, industrial processes, dewatering and bulk-water transfer, where reliability, efficiency and application-specific design are critical.

The transaction should currently be described as an agreement to acquire, rather than a completed acquisition. The Xylem announcement reviewed by Water Today did not disclose the purchase price or expected completion date, and these details should remain unreported unless confirmed through subsequent company or regulatory disclosures.
