Water Today

With the gradual decrease in the inflow of water to the Chembarambakkam reservoir, the public works department reduced water discharge to 1,500 cusecs (cubic meters per second) at 10am on Thursday morning.
A senior official said readings taken at 4am showed that the catchment areas of the reservoir received 132.4 mm rainfall. The inflow was 4,934 cusecs. The discharge at that time was 9,100 cusecs. As rain subsided, the discharge from the reservoir was reduced to 5,000 cusecs and then to 3,000 cusecs.

PWD chief engineer S Asokan said the water level would be maintained at 22 feet.
With the reduction in the discharge quantum, water in residential areas of Mudichur and Varadharajapuram would recede, he added.
