AQUAFIDES UV Range Expands Trojan Technologies Portfolio in South Africa
South Africa: The AQUAFIDES range of ultraviolet water-disinfection systems is being introduced to the South African market through Aquest UV Tech, expanding the UV treatment solutions available for municipal and industrial water applications. The development follows AQUAFIDES becoming part of Trojan Technologies in 2025. Trojan’s official history confirms that AQUAFIDES joined the group in May 2025.
Headquartered in Austria, AQUAFIDES develops closed-vessel UV systems primarily for drinking-water treatment, with applications also extending to wastewater reuse and high-purity industrial water. Its technologies complement Trojan Technologies’ existing UV brands, which include TrojanUV, Aquafine and VIQUA.
The AQUAFIDES portfolio includes the Compact and OptiLon series, designed for small- to medium-scale UV treatment applications. Trojan Technologies states that the systems are validated against recognised European drinking-water requirements, including DIN 19294-1:2020 and ÖNORM M 5873-1:2020, with additional certifications depending on the product configuration.
Potential applications include municipal drinking water, treated-water reuse and process-water systems serving sectors such as food and beverage and pharmaceuticals. UV treatment provides a physical disinfection barrier by exposing water to ultraviolet light, enabling microbial inactivation without relying on chemical disinfectants as the primary treatment mechanism. AQUAFIDES’ positioning within Trojan also extends the group’s coverage of lower-flow and smaller municipal applications.
Aquest has an established relationship with Trojan Technologies in southern Africa and has previously represented Trojan’s UV technologies in the region. The addition of AQUAFIDES gives the local portfolio another option for projects requiring certified European UV systems across drinking-water and industrial applications.
For the water sector, the expansion reflects growing interest in UV disinfection as utilities and industries strengthen microbial control, water reuse and process-water quality. Product selection will ultimately depend on required flow, UV transmittance, target dose, regulatory requirements and the specific treatment application.
