OCP Green Water Moves to Establish Two Desalination Platforms in Morocco

Morocco: OCP Green Water is reportedly moving ahead with plans to establish two dedicated companies to manage desalination plants, water-transmission systems and associated infrastructure across central and northern Morocco. Together, the two proposed platforms are expected to oversee about 410 million m³/year of desalination capacity.

According to the reported plan, the central-region platform would represent approximately 195 million m³/year, while the northern platform would account for around 215 million m³/year. The water would support OCP’s industrial operations while also contributing, where arrangements permit, to drinking-water supply and agricultural requirements.

The initiative fits within OCP Group’s wider non-conventional water strategy. OCP’s official investment programme targets 560 million m³/year of seawater-desalination capacity, with the infrastructure intended to support industrial water autonomy and supply surrounding communities.

OCP Green Water already develops desalination and transmission infrastructure linking coastal production facilities with inland mining and industrial centres. In 2025, the company commissioned the Jorf Lasfar–Khouribga pipeline, transporting desalinated water more than 200 km inland while also providing capacity for potable-water supply in Khouribga

The desalination programme is closely linked with renewable-energy development. OCP states that its new desalination facilities are intended to operate using green electricity as part of its broader transition towards non-conventional water and lower-carbon industrial operations.

The proposed corporate structure could help consolidate ownership and operation of treatment plants, pipelines and related assets. However, the specific 195 million and 215 million m³/year company capacities are currently based on the reported restructuring plan and were not independently confirmed in the official OCP material reviewed.
