Haryana Sets Aggressive 15-Day Deadline for STP Sampling Under Yamuna Action Plan

HSPCB Directs Officials to Map All Pollution Sources Within Three Months to Bolster River Rejuvenation

Authorities have warned that any facility found non-compliant during this 15-day blitz will face immediate "show-cause" notices and potential environmental compensation fines. The three-month mapping target is expected to provide a roadmap for future infrastructure projects, ensuring that no untreated waste reaches the Yamuna as it flows through Haryana toward the national capital. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has accelerated its efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna River, issuing a strict 15-day deadline for the fresh sampling of all Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) across the state. This move is part of a broader, time-bound intervention strategy designed to identify and plug pollution sources leaking into the river's catchment areas.

In a recent high-level meeting, HSPCB officials were directed to not only complete the technical sampling of treated and untreated effluent within two weeks but also to finish a comprehensive mapping of all pollution sources within three months. This mapping project aims to create a definitive database of industrial units, domestic sewage outfalls, and illegal discharge points that contribute to the river's degradation.

The Yamuna Action Plan in Haryana has faced scrutiny over the efficiency of existing STPs. By mandating fresh samples, the Board intends to verify whether these facilities are meeting the prescribed environmental standards for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids (TSS).
