VA Tech WABAG spurts on bagging large international order for Vienna water works expansion
MUMBAI: Pure-play water technology Indian multinational VA Tech WABAG saw its shares rally 3.84% to Rs 2,088 after announcing a significant international order win in Europe. The company has been selected by the City of Vienna's Municipal Department MA 31 (Wiener Wasser) to execute a massive expansion of the Donauinsel Water Works in Vienna, Austria.
Under its internal order classification framework, WABAG categorizes this contract as a "Large" international order, valuing it somewhere between $30 million and $75 million.
High-Tech Multi-Barrier Framework for Water Security
The contract assigns WABAG with executing the entire technical architecture of the new facility. This extensive package includes process engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation and control (I&C), as well as building services.
To reinforce the long-term safety and quality of Vienna’s urban drinking water supply, the plant will feature a state-of-the-art multi-barrier treatment process. The advanced technical sequence will integrate:
Oxidation and Ozonation
Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP)
Standard and Activated Carbon Filtration
Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection
Once commissioned in 2030, the expanded Donauinsel Water Works will feature a design capacity of up to 1,000 liters per second—equivalent to roughly 86 million liters per day (MLD)—massively boosting the city’s climate-resilient water security.
Strong European Footprint
Commenting on the development, Mahmut Gedek, CEO of WABAG’s Europe Cluster, expressed pride in bringing the company’s global technological expertise directly to Austria's capital. "The expansion of the Donauinsel Water Works is a landmark project for Vienna's long-term drinking water supply and a strong validation of WABAG's technological expertise," Gedek said.
VA Tech WABAG is an established specialist in the global water treatment business, focusing on the design, construction, and operational management of municipal and industrial drinking water, wastewater, and desalination facilities worldwide.
Financial Tailwinds
The international order win follows a stellar financial performance by the company. In its latest Q4 FY26 earnings release, WABAG reported a robust 28.6% jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 128.30 crore, supported by a 22.3% surge in operational revenue to Rs 1,414.4 crore compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This fresh influx of high-value European orders is expected to strengthen its order book and operational momentum moving forward.
