Amazon and FluxGen Plan Integrated Water-Management Project at Pune’s NCL Campus

Pune: Amazon India and water-technology company FluxGen are implementing an integrated water-management programme at the National Chemical Laboratory campus in Pune, combining consumption reduction, wastewater recycling, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge.

The initiative covers NCL’s approximately 38-acre research campus and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Once operational, the programme is projected to deliver an estimated 178 million litres of annual water restoration and conservation benefit.

Alongside demand management, the programme will incorporate wastewater recycling, rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. Bringing these systems together at one institutional campus is intended to demonstrate how multiple water-management technologies can operate as an integrated system rather than as isolated interventions

The partners expect the NCL project to provide a potential reference model for other institutional facilities such as research centres, offices, hospitals, educational campuses and large commercial properties seeking to reduce freshwater dependence.

The initiative also fits within Amazon’s wider water-stewardship programme in India. The company says it returned water equivalent to 120% of the volume used across its direct Indian operations in 2025 and expects its wider water projects to replenish more than 4 billion litres annually once completed.
