Water technology company VA Tech Wabag has secured a consortium ‘large’ order from the United Water Supply Company of Georgia for the construction of a wastewater-treatment plant in Kutaisi, Georgia’s third-largest city. The company classifies large orders as contracts valued between ₹250 crore and ₹600 crore.

The project, funded by the European Investment Bank, involves setting up a 19 MLD wastewater-treatment plant. The facility has been designed for scalability and can be expanded to 56 MLD in the future.

As consortium leader, Wabag will undertake demolition of the existing plant, construction of the new facility and installation of an effluent pipeline to the River Rioni. Its EPC scope includes design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning, along with 12 months of operational support and client training.

The plant will use mechanical and biological treatment with nutrient removal based on the activated-sludge process. It will also include final sedimentation, UV disinfection, sludge-treatment systems, solar sludge drying, odour control and pumping infrastructure.

The order marks Wabag’s entry into the Commonwealth of Independent States region and the Georgian market. The company said the facility will ensure safe discharge into the River Rioni, improve sludge management and deliver environmental and social benefits to the region.
